Countdown to LabWeek Public Goods Has Begun!
The decentralized conference will focus on public foods funding, sustainability and decentralized science.
Are you ready for LabWeek Public Goods? Public goods development has been at the core of PL’s vision to help create better solutions to drive breakthroughs in computing. We created Funding the Commons in 2021 to further innovate in the field and, this year, we are excited to introduce sister conference Earth Commons. This is all part of PL’s vision for the future, built on three core focus areas that strive to harness humanity’s potential for good and navigate potential pitfalls.
We look forward to welcoming you to LabWeek Public Goods, a decentralized conference held in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, from April 11-16, 2024, designed to engage in deep conversations and make connections to drive real progress.
Three Conferences in One
What: LabWeek Public Goods
Where: San Francisco Bay Area
When: April 11-16
With LabWeek Public Goods, PL continues to lead and push progress around public goods funding, sustainability and decentralized science. Many of the current active projects in the public goods space started at events or conversations within the PL ecosystem. LabWeek Public Goods will include curated events, engineering workshops, unconferences, happy hours, and more.
Themes explored will include:
Experimentation with network funding structures and impact certificates
Efficient tools and new mechanisms for public goods funding
Better, more efficient coordination to solve large scale problems

What: Funding the Commons (FTC)
Where: San Francisco Bay Area
When: April 13-14
The 8th edition of Funding the Commons will focus on two areas of rapid innovation underpinning fundamental infrastructure for navigating the digital-physical commons: AI and the Open Web. The event will bring together builders, funders, and researchers to spotlight the latest research and innovations in open source technology and AI as applied to digital public goods and funding infrastructure. Expect a mix of inspirational talks, workshops, networking corners, as well as intimate conversations with thought-leaders.
Themes explored will include:
Platforming successful model methodologies leveraging open source technologies and AI with scaling potential
Understanding the role of AI and open source in funding, building and supporting public goods – and as public goods themselves
Explorations of feedback loops to optimize impact evaluation
Confirmed speakers include Brian Behlendorf (Linux Foundation), Dr. Dawn Song (Berkeley RDI), Kevin Owocki (Gitcoin) and more. Register for a ticket to FTC today.
What: Earth Commons (EC)
Where: San Francisco Bay Area
When: April 13-14
The mission of Earth Commons is to explore the funding and governance of nature’s commons by building bridges between climate entrepreneurs, academics, technologists, funders, NGOs, and national and international public institutions. The inaugural conference, in partnership with the Berkeley Climate Change Network, will explore how leveraging emerging technologies and open science can help us respond to dynamically evolving challenges across complex economic and ecological systems.
Themes explored will include:
How we can better support open innovation ecosystems to address critical aspects of planetary thriving
Platforming efforts to mitigate our environmental footprint, including that of emerging technologies like AI and blockchain
Pioneering experiments in new mechanisms for co-designing solutions with nature
Confirmed speakers include Dr Alan Ransil (Filecoin Green, Operad.AI), Allison Duettman (Foresight Institute), William Collins (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) and more. Book your ticket to EC here.
We look forward to seeing you there!
